My Summer Reading Log

Inspired by Kevin DeYoung, here's a list of what I've been reading this summer:

-Life and Holiness by Thomas Merton. While not as widely known as The Seven Storey Mountain, this is a great book explaining what it means to be holy in everyday life.

-The Kingdom of God is Within You by Leo Tolstoy. Although I do not consider myself to be a Christian Anarchist, Tolstoy's writings have definitely influenced my social/political views.

-Evolving in Monkey Town by Rachel Held Evans. You're probably sick of me constantly gushing about this book, but it really did help me become comfortable with having questions.

-Surprised by Hope by N.T. Wright. This book has changed the way I view death and the afterlife.

-Hipster Christianity by Brett McCracken. Surprisingly, this book is a serious examination of what it means to be Christian and hip.

-A Jonathan Edwards Reader. I'm currently reading this one now. Most of us know Edwards as that angry fire and brimstone guy. But he's actually more than that. Although I don't think I'll be wearing one of those "Jonathan Edwards Is My Homeboy" shirts any time soon.

  1. I gave my husband that Jonathan Edwards Reader last Christmas, and he is reading through it now. He keeps raving about how incredible and brilliant and right on Edwards is. It almost makes me want to read it. Almost. ;) (I don't care for reading non-fiction of any sort, particularly not sermons, no matter how much I might be inspired by them!)
